US Open: Sviatake and Jabur enter US Open finals for the first time

Inga Sviatake and Ons Jabur entered the women’s singles final of the US Open tennis tournament for the first time. Now they will face each other in the final match to be held on Saturday.

World number one Inga Sviatake and Wimbledon runner-up Ons Jabur entered the women’s singles final of the US Open tennis tournament for the first time by registering opposite wins. Jabur presented his best tennis look on Thursday night as he defeated Caroline Garcia 6-1, 6-3 to reach her second consecutive Grand Slam final.

Jabur said after the victory, ‘Now I am closer to reality. I was living my dream at Wimbledon and couldn’t believe I reached the final. In this way Jabur stopped Garcia’s 13-match winning campaign. The Tunisia player will take on Sviatec, who lost the first set to beat sixth seed Aryna Sabalenka 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in Saturday’s final.

Sviatec was trailing in the third set as well but won the last four games to make it to the final. He had scored 16 points out of the last 20 points. Swiatek had never progressed past the fourth round at the US Open, but the 21-year-old from Poland has two French Open titles to her name. The 28-year-old Jabur, seeded fifth, is the first African player to reach the final of the US Open in the professional era that began in 1968.
