Kerala News: PM Narendra Modi to inaugurate Phase 1 of Kochi Metro and lay foundation stone for Phase 2 on September 1



Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the first indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant at Kochi Shipyard Limited and lay the foundation stone for the Rs 3800 crore project at Mangalore. With this, Kochi will inaugurate the Metro Phase One and lay the foundation stone of the phase.

Kochi (Agency). Giving information on Wednesday, Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of Kochi Metro Phase 2 on September 1 after coming to Kerala. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Karnataka and Kerala on September 1 and 2.

Simultaneously, he will also inaugurate Phase 1 of the Kochi Metro, which is built from SN Junction to Vadakkekotta. According to news agency ANI, the ceremony will be held at the Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) trade fair and exhibition center in the presence of Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Mayor M Anilkumar, MP Hibi Eden, Antony Raju (Transport Minister), P Rajeev (Industry, Law and Coir Minister) will mark their esteemed presence at the function.

Revenue operations will start at 7 pm only

The proposed Phase 2 project corridor of Kochi Metro Rail from JLN Stadium Metro Station to Infopark, Kakkanad will be 11.2 km in length, with 11 metro stations. The Phase 1 extension is the first section of the work directly undertaken by the Kochi Metro Rail Limited.

After its inauguration, the Kochi Metro will cover a distance of at least 27 km with 24 stations. Soon after the Hon’ble PM dedicated the station to the people of Kochi, the revenue operations of both the stations would start at 7 PM. Let us inform that the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety after inspection had approved the revenue operation of Petta-SN Junction section.

Vadakkekotta station built in 4.3 lakh sq. ft.

The work of Vadakkekotta, SN Junction stations and Panamkutty bridge was started on 16th October, 2019 and continued during the COVID pandemic. Vadakkekotta is the largest of the metro stations with an area of 4.3 lakh square feet. Unlike other metro stations, large commercial spaces have been built both inside and outside the new facilities.

Vadakkekotta station depicts the role of Kerala in the freedom struggle as its theme while SN Junction depicts Ayurveda and its modern approach. When the SN Junction and Vadakkekotta stations open for revenue operations, KMRL is expecting an average of one lakh passengers per day to travel.
