Court bans alleged illegal construction in Delhi’s Chandni Chowk

New Delhi, Sep 9 (PTI) The Delhi High Court has directed to stop the alleged unauthorized and illegal commercial construction work in a residential area of Chandni Chowk.

The High Court has directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to ensure strict compliance of the order and provide all assistance to the Delhi Police Commissioner, the court-appointed ‘court commissioner’ and the team that inspects the premises.

Chief Justice S. C. Sharma and Justice S. Prasad said, “It is directed that no construction work should be done in the said property till the next date of hearing.”

The court ordered Dr. Jaitley, who said that the petition has been filed on behalf of the residents of Katra Neel, Chandni Chowk in Delhi.

The petition had contended that an unauthorized and illegal commercial construction was being carried out in the Bagh Deewar area of Chandni Chowk which is a residential area. MCD’s counsel Sanjeev Sagar and Nazia Parveen submitted that the civic body had issued a notice to demolish the alleged illegal construction.

However, a petition was filed in this regard in the lower court and the court ordered the MCD not to take any demolition action before the completion of the hearing.

The High Court said that the Court Commissioner will have complete freedom to videograph the construction work and submit the report within 15 days. The court issued notice to the MCD and listed the matter for September 23 for further hearing.
